Invalid characters in ajax-poller

First of all i want to give credits to the poller, it's really nice.
But it has one big flaw, at least for me when i need swedish characters like åäö.

please take a look at my site, www.holdemplayer.se
and try to vote, you'll see some strange characters instead of the swedish letters.

Is there a solution to that problem? Please help me because i have not found any pollers good as this one.
