I've gotten by this by making sure that I only put the modal dialog on the top window ( not in any of the frames ) then all you have to do to open a modal dialog is call top.displayMessage(....) and the modal dialog will open in the window, over top of the frames.

I guess I could try something like that.

I'm trying to keep the two as separate as possible. Since the site is mainly in asp and my new app is a dotnet app running in an iframe to maintain the old navigation (it's ugly but I just don't have the time to rebuild the site yet).
