I'm new to javascript, and I just need to do something simple. I want an online equivalent of the magnetic poetry that some people have on their fridge. I want users to be able to move words around and have those words display in the same positions when another user visits the page. I'm using this code as the starting point.

It works perfectly for a single user, but I believe the data recording the positions of the various divs needs to be stored in a file on the server and accessed with ajax rather than stored in cookies on an individual users computer. Any ideas how to approach this?
