Width of menu and submenu's

Hi there,
I use the dhtml simple list based menu combined with PHP .
But when there are a lot of entry's in the menu it gets very wide see screenshot:


How can i set a default width for the submenu's??
How can i set the menu buttons so that they fill up all space on the right??

i allready found out how to change the default submenu width:
if(MSIE){
var a = li.getElementsByTagName('A')[0];
a.style.width='135px'; <-- THERE WAS SOMETHING ELSE HERE
a.style.display='block';
}

I now only want to know how to get rid of the unused space on the right (has something to do with padding or something but i don't know where i can change it
