Pane Splitter in Container

The pane splitter is really excellent from what I've seen... lots of functionality and it looks great.

In the page I'm building, I only want to split part of the page. Is there any way to put the splitter inside a container like a div so that it doesn't take up the whole screen? I've tried nesting it, but it resizes to full screen anyway.
