Hi,

looks like a great tool.
I copied it to a chess site ( http://www.haagseschaakbond.nl/chess/chess.html ) but no games are shown. I left the default value $pgnFile = "games/greatgames.pgn";
All (sub)folders are chmodded to 755.

Do these files require a specific version of php ?

Those little details are sometimes hard to spot

btw: Have you tried the blindfold trainer?



I'm interested in comments and suggestions of improvements from users with more experience in chess than me.

I'm a very modest player too
Blind chess isn't the first kind of game I would play.

However, my first little suggestion : when presenting a position and asking for the best move, I was able to 'see' in a given postion that Rh8 (coming from a8 ) resulted in checkmate. The program answered 'wrong' cause I had forgotten the #. And I already was so proud to find the answer

A furher question : how could I modify the files to make it a little more dynamic, i.e. to be able to pass the name of the pgn as an argument ? On our site several people can deliver pgn-files and post messages. If they can immediately post a link to the chessviewer (something like www.haagseschaakbond.nl/chess/chess.htm ... rnooidelft ) the viewer could be wideliy used.

I have to take a closer look at this code.

For now, the moderator of our forum started a topic about the blindfold trainer :

(he's a rather good but non-active chess player)

A quick translation (don't shoot at the messenger ):
- moves without the 'check' or 'mate' notations should be accepted as correct
- the question about white: Kh5 Lb1 Pd7 g6 h6 black: Kh8 Ta8 a7 b6 claims g7 mate (which seems not to be the case)
- some positions made giving checkmate with more than 1 piece possible, only one move will be accepted by the app.
- maybe too many questions about knight-moves and diagonals
